I found a new site over the weekend. . . PBS has a series called “Art:21 – Art in the Twenty-First Centurty” They have a great website full of interviews, slideshows and clips and they even have a Blog!
I haven’t seen the show yet ( which I can’t believe since its been on for a few years) but ordering the DVD set is definitely on my list of to do’s. I am so intrigued by the episodes: Romance, Humor, Ecology, Consumption, Time etc. . And the artists that are a part of them: Photographers, Sculptures, Painters, Printmakers etc.
So then as my afternoon on this site continued I went to their youtube page and to search a little more.
I love Love LOVE letterpress and printmaking (I have even been on the hunt for my own tabletop letterpress for) so Margaret Kilgallen’s work is amazing to me to see how she used her love for folk printmaking and her eye for typography towards her art. In reading more about her I found out she passed away from Cancer in 2001.
I studied the photographer Robert Adams in school and this is a great video of him explaining how he puts a book together and how he lays out the images next to each other to complete the story.
I am loving studio tours lately. Whether its for an artists or a decorator I love getting to know more about the artists and also to see where they work. One artists thats work didn’t really intrigue me was Walton Ford. He has a unique style of “large – scale watercolor” that blends the depictions we have of natural history with current commentary. When I found his studio tour I loved it! Check out his rear-view mirror trick!!
