Power in a Toothbrush. . .

Hello from El Salvador!

Today was a great first day getting to see the city ( San Salvador) . We stopped by our country office for a quick lesson in all things Compassion and we were so thankful to get to hear from The Compassion El Salvador Director, Guillermo. Having traveled to various countries with Compassion I must say that it is not only a blessing to meet these country directors but it is so amazing to hear from them! Their stories and how they came to be director are amazing. They come from different backgrounds some have been in politics or business and felt the call to move to ministry in their country and some like Guillermo grew up in poverty.

Guillermo talked us through the different aspects of Compassion and the history of Compassion’s work in El Salvador. Then his slide went to this picture (and there my friends is Guillermo) and he loudly said:

There is power in a toothbrush!

He explained how growing up as a little boy he didn’t have a toothbrush and he can remember the day his mom ( who worked) came home with one for him, it was small but it was a powerful moment. That toothbrush meant something bigger to him. He continued to talk about the ways that Compassion has stepped in ( the small ways) that are powerful on their country. And how from Medical check-ups to community lessons on crops or running a chicken farm Compassion is taking small steps even if its through something like a toothbrush to bring POWERFUL meaning to a child.

So excited you guys are taking this journey through El Salvador with us!

More tomorrow!

MamasBoy - Thanks for doing this. My wife and I sponsor several kids, and we always enjoy hearing about the good work of Compassion from people on the front lines.

Jason - Power in a toothbrush…man…we in America take so many things for granted.

Hillary@ The Other Mama - Funny how we don’t think of the little things, isn’t it? My kids left their toothbrushes at their grandparents house this weekend, so we are in the same boat! ha! Thankfully we have a Target and means to get them one, but I can’t imagine the loss of not having something for my kids health. Thanks for the perspective change and I’m praying for a great week for y’all!
